About ifixtax.ca — who writes this and how it's kept current
About

Why this site exists

Canadian personal tax isn't hard because the rules are unknowable. It's hard because the answers are scattered across government pages written for administrators and articles written for search engines. ifixtax.ca is the version we wished existed: the actual answer, in a paragraph, with the number attached.

Written by a specialist

Every page is drafted and reviewed by Robert Occhiuto, CPA, CA — CPA Canada In-Depth Tax certified, with over 20 years in public accounting. The emphasis lands on what actually goes wrong rather than on what's easiest to write.

Current, and dated

Figures reflect federal and Ontario rules for the 2025 and 2026 tax years, including the reduction of the lowest federal rate to 14%. Pages carry a review date so you can judge how fresh they are.

Federal plus Ontario

Rates, credits and calculators are written for an Ontario resident. Federal rules apply everywhere in Canada; the provincial layer here does not.

How we write it

The answer comes first

No preamble about how important taxes are. If the answer is "April 30," the first sentence says April 30.

Numbers are named, not implied

Thresholds, limits and rates are stated with the year they apply to. Where a figure is an estimate or an approximation, it says so.

Sourced from primary material

Bracket thresholds, indexation factors, contribution limits and payroll ceilings come from CRA and Department of Finance announcements and the Income Tax Act — not from other websites.

Announced isn't enacted

Measures that were proposed and then cancelled — the two-thirds capital gains inclusion rate is the recent example — are labelled as such, because a lot of advice online still assumes they took effect. They didn't.

We say when to stop reading

Some situations can't be answered generically — a property sale, an incorporation question, several unfiled years, a reassessment. Those pages tell you it's a conversation rather than pretending otherwise.

Who's behind it

Maintained by
Occhiuto CPA Professional Corporation

A tax practice in Vaughan serving incorporated professionals across the GTA. Robert Occhiuto, CPA, CA holds CPA Canada's In-Depth Tax certification and spent over 20 years in public accounting, including three years at BDO Canada. The specialist work is professional corporations, holding company structures, salary versus dividends, estate and trust tax, and CRA audit and dispute representation.

ifixtax.ca is the personal-tax side of that practice: the questions individuals ask most, answered once, properly.

What this site is not

It is general information, not tax, legal or financial advice, and reading it doesn't create an accountant–client relationship. Nothing here has been written with your specific facts in view, and tax outcomes turn on facts.

Legislation changes, sometimes retroactively, and a federal budget can move any number on this site. Before acting on anything material, confirm your own limits and balances in CRA My Account and get advice on your situation.

We aren't affiliated with the Canada Revenue Agency or any government body. Never send your SIN, banking details or CRA sign-in information through a web form.

Found something wrong?

Tell us. A wrong threshold or a stale figure is a real problem on a site like this, and corrections are made quickly and acknowledged. Requests for topics we haven't covered are equally welcome — most of the answer library exists because someone asked.
